In terms of economic value for dollar spent, this, in our opinion is one of the buys for beginners amateur practitioners of Pipa performance. Grade 2 scented rosewood looks very attractive to the eye, as its grains are now clearly visible. Sound wise, combined with G3 paulownia give a solid sound in the middle registers. For traditional pieces, this can suffice for a soloist instrument. Highs and lows are not exactly strong points of this model, though it sounds decent enough for orchestra and self practice. Midtones sound robust and clear and is everything a musician would expect in a Pipa. We would recommend this instrument for beginners and someone who wants to learn a bit more seriously, but tight on the budget.
