SEPT NAMES include: Fergus, Ferries, Ferrie, Ferris, MacAdie, MacFergus, MacHerries, MacKerras, MacKersey. Also known as Fregusson, the clan flourished throughout Scotland. In the southwest of Scotland it traces its origins from a twelfth century Lord of Galloway, while in the western Highlands descent is traced from an ancient king of Dalriada. The eighteenth century poet Robert Fergusson had a profound influence on the work of Scotland's national bard Robert Burns.
