Product Description
What is the difference of a regular thermometer and a basal thermometer?
A regular thermometer usually takes temp in one minute or longer, because it needs long time to go over a circle and get the highest body temperature for clinical diagnosis. It requires less sensitive normally ±0.1C.
A basal thermometer mainly used for basal body thermometer (BBT) charting. It needs to be more sensitive to ±0.05C, so that it can detect the 0.2~0.5C temp rise before and after ovulation. It would better to read fast. Since BBT is the lowest temperature of body, which usually attains during sleep. Any activities after wake up will rise our body temperature. Thus it would better to get a fast one to take temp, before our body "wake up" totally.
Why I got different readings with different thermometer in back to back measuement with Wagen?
In people's common sense, we should get the same reading in back to back tests. However, the body temperature is not a fixed number but a waveform curve with peaks and valleys shifting by time. The fact is that, the faster the thermometer reads, the more different you got in back to back tests. The reason lies in time, whether it is long enough to cover a complete circle with temperature peaks. We also know that, the longer we measures, the more accurate readings we got. It is the case for fever diagnosis. You can get the same reading in this case, because the time is long to cover temperature peaks.
As for Wagen, it has [Actual Mode], [Predict Mode] and [Persistent Measure Mode]. You can keep measuring after it reads and enter [Persistent Measure Mode], then measure it for one minute. In this way it reads the same like any other regular thermometers. You are supposed to get different reading in different tests under [Actual Mode] and [Predict Mode], because it is so sensitive to tell slight temp difference of every 9 seconds.
