Brand new in factory-sealed packaging Troubleshooting steps, 1 - This is an antenna amplifier which is only meant to increase the signal. 2 - While the item may work on a case by case basis with TIVO boxes, the item was not designed for TIVO boxes in mind, so perhaps a note can be placed such as " Not recommended for TIVO boxes" 3 - As we purchase the item from Trisonic, they advised the case with the used item is not possible as they inspect all returns and do not resell opened items. Perhaps the item was damaged in transit. They advise that they follow this process for all customers. 4 - As for the item running hot, it is not an indication that it it is defective. As we know, phone chargers can run hot. It is advised that the item should be placed where it can best access room temperature. 5 - As for the reception only receiving 8 rather than 35 channels, reception can be an issue time to time based on the location of the customer. If a user is very far away from a tower, it can increase the amount of channels, but the further away the towers, the less the increase in reception. 6 - Lastly, the user needs to use the dial marked Gain to increase (clockwise) to increase signal strength. Strength can be decreased by turning it counterclockwise.
