Marshmallow Origins
The earliest form of the marshmallow was found as early as 2000 B.C. in Egypt. The Egyptians used the root of the Marsh Mallow plant (Althaea Officinalis) to make the chewy base, as an effective treatment against sore throats.
The 19th century French candy makers made sweetened marshmallows, evolving it into a key ingredient for gourmet desserts. This labourious process created marshmallow works of arts that were appreciated and popularized by the French.
The Americans made it a popular camping tradition by roasting marshmallows over campfires. They also found a way to create marshmallows in factories, surpassing the French hand-made methods. Thanks to them, marshmallows became an everyday indulgence to satisfy the American sweet tooth.
With the leaps and bounds in marshmallow technology, Corniche has been delivering chewy treats to mallow lovers worldwide. Take them as is or turn them into culinary works of art for your friends, family and loved ones.
