Nanyang (1819-1914) originated from Chinese descent that travelled across a region from China coasts of Fujian and Guangdong to settlements along the Straits of Melaka that eventually became known to them as Nanyang (Southern Ocean). Nanyang was a region that was being colonised by the colonial government from British and the Dutch mainly and thus the introduction of the beverage coffee to the local colonial settlers. The local chinese settlers started to have contact with coffee and came up with a special way of selecting coffee beans, roasting, formulating, grinding and brewing that became unique just to Nanyang region.

Nanyang coffee uses tradition roasting method that help to remove the bitter and sour taste of the coffee bean and also reduce the caffeine content in the coffee bean. Traditional nanyang coffee uses charcoal to roast the coffee beans and each time the quantity roasted is small and thus the tedious method in this coffee roasting. Nanyang coffee also uses a special kind of cup to serve the specially brewed coffee as shown in the side picture.

The different between Nanyang Coffee and normal coffee is the traditional roasting method used by Nanyang coffee. Nanyang coffee uses charcoal to roast the coffee beans and using low to middle temperature thus taking a longer time to roast. This method also need very experience coffee roasting master with many years of roasting experience to determine whether the coffee beans are roasted perfectly. As this method is difficult to master, not many people are willing to learn and thus the skill is being forgotten. Normal coffee beans uses automatic roasting machines and currently there are fully automatic machines that need the user to set the temperature and time required and do not ready require any skills in operating. This kind of normal roasting method can produce roasted coffee beans in bulk and do not have the fragrance one can find in the Nanyang coffee.

Nanyang Luwak Coffee uses supreme Arabica coffee beans from the poo of wild civet cats and with it’s tradition roasting of the coffee beans using the tradition method passed down by our forefathers during the colonial era. The tradition roasting method uses low to medium temperature during roasting helps to remove the bitter and sour taste giving it sweet and aromatic taste of the coffee beans.

Nanyang Luwak White Coffee does not add in any artificial additives  and thus do not have very strong coffee taste but in term replacing it with a natural smoothing coffee taste and the natural coco taste.
