Joints consist of a joint cavity filled with synovial fluid that serves as both a lubricant and source of nutrition, a joint membrane and articular cartilage that acts as a shock absorber. If any of the building blocks of these components are not available in adequate amounts, stiffness and soreness result - conditions commonly seen in large breeds and active or elderly dogs.
