“吃过年夜饭后，家里的长辈要给儿女压岁钱，以祝福晚辈平安度岁。压岁钱，又称“压胜钱”、“押岁钱”、“守岁钱”等，是年俗的节物之一。压岁钱最初的用意是镇恶驱邪。人们认为小孩容易受鬼祟的侵害，所以用压岁钱压胜驱邪，帮助小孩平安过年，祝愿小儿在新的一年健康吉利。不过最早的压岁钱的 钱”不是市面上流通的货币，而是专门铸成钱币的吉利品或避邪品，是小儿身上带的护身符。因为“祟”与岁谐音，所以压岁钱有“厌胜鬼祟”的巫术作用。”
