Product Description

King Silk Art makes silk embroidery wall art, 100% hand-stitched by Master Artists in Suzhou, China. Our artwork, Susho, is completely natural, created with tiny needles and pure silk thread. Susho is a 2500 year old family tradition, with a unique and fascinating history.

Dogs are prominent in Chinese culture, the 11th sign in the Chinese zodiac, representing people who are honest, faithful and sincere. Symbolically, dogs also represent the respect for tradition and honor as well as the service of others.

In one creation myth, the creator of the earth was a god named Pan Gu, who had the body of a man and the head of a dog. Pan Gu was originally a dog, the pet of the king of heaven. The king of heaven had a bitter enemy, a king in another part of the universe.

The king told the dog he could become human and marry his daughter, if he would kill the rival king. Pan Gu went to the rival king's palace, and the rival king was delighted that the king of heaven had fallen so low, even his dog left him. To celebrate, he had a banquet and got very drunk.

Pan Gu easily killed the rival king and returned to heaven with his head. The king of heaven was thrilled and started the spell to turn Pan Gu into a human so he could marry his daughter. The spell was supposed to take 7 days and Pan Gu had to lie under a magic blanket.

The daughter got impatient and lifted the magic blanket too soon; Pan Gu had a man's body and a dog's head. The spell ended and the incomplete change was permanent. Pan Gu and the daughter got married, but they were both ashamed of his appearance, Pan Gu decided to create the earth so they could live away from ridicule.

In Feng Shui, dogs are powerful protection charms. Dog images are often placed in pairs at entrances and places with valuable objects.
