What is a Slant Board? The Chinese calls it a La Jin Ban (拉筋板), or directly translated, a board to stretch the ligaments and tendons.

The Chinese believes that there is a main strip of "Jin” that runs from the neck down the whole body via the back, waist, thighs, calves, heals, and ends in the centre of the soles. When the ligaments or tendons are not functioning optimally, the rest of the body suffers from pain and inhibited movements. This is called "Jin Suo” which means a contraction of the "Jin”. Some symptoms of "Jin Suo” includes stiff neck, lumbar stiffness and pain, back aches and stiffness, uneven length of legs, inability to squat or bend down.

Standing on a slant board with hands raised straight over the head for several minutes a day is said to be beneficial for health, like aids in slimming (by clearing the toxins as the "Jin” is flowing unblocked), strengthening the back, legs, slight lengthening of slightly uneven leg length, reducing back aches, stiff necks, etc.

This board can be adjusted into 3 angles (25 degrees, 30 degrees, 35 degrees). Beginners should start with the lesser inclines. The elderly may stand with the back close to a wall, or hold the hands of a supporter and stick to just simply standing still on the board with raised hands above the head instead of other variations. Pregnant women are not advised to use the board.

Since this simple exercise is basically just standing still, it may be suitable for persons with limited mobility. (Do check with your physician first before commencing with the exercise.) Once you have developed more flexibility, you may try to bend down at the waist to touch your toes whilst still standing on the board.

Some people also like to use the slant board differently, as shown in these other pictures. The pictures show which muscle groups are activated accordingly.

The board is made from HDM (High Density Material). The material is also used in some floorboards, so it is very sturdy (can support around 130kg). Note that some boards can only support up to 80kg which isn’t a lot for a heftily-build user. And if your child should jump on top of you whilst you are standing on the board, you want the board to be able to support the extra weight too. A flimsy board or hinge may collapse under the sudden stress and someone could get hurt.

The board folds down well and can even be used in the office unobtrusively.

Colour of the board is dark brown.

Weight of package is around 4kg.
