Oxford Landing - the perfect environment for growing grapes with vibrant, fruity flavours
Oxford Landing is a real place, a real vineyard. A place distinguished by clear blue skies, rich red soil and an abundance of golden sunshine. Established in 1958 on the banks of the majestic Murray River in South Australia, the vineyard was named Oxford Landing after a nearby site where drovers once grazed and watered sheep on the long journey to Adelaide from northern pastoral properties.
Care and attention are the hallmarks of life at Oxford Landing. Many of the people who work here also live here, it's home. They're what we like to call 'real people', genuine, down-to-earth individuals who are unashamedly passionate about this special place and the grapes it produces.
The winemakers and the vineyard crew work together to ensure the end result is what they envisaged.
"It's a real team effort," says Vineyard Manager Robert "Fred" Strachan. "Our group of dedicated vineyard staff lives on site and nearby, creating a strong community. They’re always near at hand and willing to pitch in when needed and it is their care and attention that sets the basis for the Oxford Landing quality of wine."
OXFORD LANDING ESTATES
Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2011
Winemaking/Viticulture Sandy soils over limestone require careful water management as they readily dry out during summer. Supplementary irrigation strategy and canopy management are adapted to suit each site, providing a good balance of light and shade in the canopy and maximising fruit quality. An exceptionally cool vintage with steady rain throughout the growing and ripening season meant that the vines developed robust canopies. Mild weather throughout December-March provided optimal ripening conditions allowing the fruit to ripen gradually to produce varietal Cabernet Sauvignon flavours. Winemaker’s Comments Deep ruby purple with hints of crimson, this wine displays lifted Cabernet aromas of blackcurrent, tomato leaf and plums with suggestions of blackberries, cedar and violets. The palate is elegantly structured with layers of berry fruits, anise and fruit pastille. Shiraz adds a silky texture and sweetness to the mid palate whilst the Cabernet provides structure and a soft tannin finish. Synergy and elegance. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
