The white inner neon light lights up the face dial very well and both lights complement one another. The clock is battery operated (single AA) and the lights are powered by an AC cord which is included. The lights turn on/off by way of a pull-chain (similar to a GI dog-tag chain) located at the bottom of the clock. The lights have two functions: Both solid with one pull on the chain and outer blinking / inner solid with a second pull on the chain.
