Following ancient techniques founded and continued only in Kakunodate Akita Prefecture comes Kabazaiku, traditional handicraft made from the bark of Mountainside Cherry Blossom Trees (Yamazakura). Overcoming wind and snow, the Yamazakura's blossoms and leaves bloom simultaneously. The four seasons in Japan are very apparent, and after the bitter coldness of winter, new life begins to bud and sprout. Japanese are filled anew at the start of the new business year season, and the vivid pink colors of the cherry blossoms help them feel that spring has arrived. As the cherry blossoms bloom in Japan, the Japanese are overjoyed and flock to gather at the foot of the cherry trees where they have Flower Watching (Hanami) parties, which consist of drinking and eating and more drinking. The cherry blossoms come and go so quickly that there is an awe in the power of it's beauty. We hope you will enjoy the beautiful redness of the Kabazaiku, a redness not to be found elsewhere.
