Most people often think that licorice and DGL are one and the same. DGL, or deglycyrrhizinated licorice, is a derivative of licorice root. During the extraction of DGL from licorice root extract, glycyrrhetic acid is removed. Hence, DGL is safer as compared to licorice.

 DGL is a very good demulcent that coats the mucous membranes and promotes natural secretion of mucous in order to soothe and protect.
