Following the trench warfare of the first World War which took place in the poppy fields of Flanders, red poppies have become a symbol of remembrance of soldiers who have died during wartime. This was the setting for the famous poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae. Red poppies, or artificial ones, are worn on and around November 11th, Remembrance Day (Veterans Day in the US) to honor them.Feature
