German Safety Standard DIN 58124 - playing it safe.

The " Germand Safety Standard for schoolbags" DIN 58124 says:
schoolbags have to be equipped with fluorescent areas as well as
retroreflective ones. The amount is stipulated: 10 % of the visible areas of
the schoolbag have to be retroreflective, 20 % fluorescent.

Schoolbags which are provided with warning colours in orange-red
or yellow meet the requirements of the German Safety Standard DIN 58124.
So all Scout schoolbags with fluorescent areas in these colours have the DIN-logo.

Warning colours with neon-effect! Fluorescent areas improve
visibility during the day and in low-light conditions.
In the current Scout collection there are six different warning
colours – all match the designs of the schoolbag.

Glow effect in the dark – from the leading supplier ORAFOL.
The retro-reflective material reflects incident light (e.g. headlights) and
thus products a striking flash effect. During the day these
areas shine pearl-silver.

Fluorescent and retroreflective - what helps when?

Scout schoolbags are equipped with two different safety features:

Warning colours with neon-effect.

90 % of the ways to and from school are covered during the day or at dawn. This is the perfect time for fluorescent areas; they make sure that the children are seen well in traffic.

Retroreflektive areas for the flash-effect in the dark.

Incoming light (e. g. by the headlight of a car) are reflected by these areas and thus creates a striking glow effect in the dark.
