jane iredale Liquid Minerals A Foundation formulated in bead-like spheres inside an airless pump but dispenses into a silky liquid that features light-reflecting minerals to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and any other skin imperfections. Cooling aloe brings relief to redness while hyaluronic acid binds moisture to the skin for a smooth and younger-looking complexion.

At the center of the visible spheres lie:

minerals (mica, titanium dioxide, boron nitride and iron oxides),
L-sodium hyaluronate acid (hyaluronic acid) and
olive squalane
all encapsulated by seaweed lipids.

Floating around these larger spheres, like planets around the sun, are microscopic liposomes that individually encapsulate:

coenzyme Q10
magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (vitamin C)
willow bark extract
chamomile
calendula
seaweeds (algin, agar and carrageenan.)

The spheres are then suspended in a gel of aloe vera, lavender flower water and vegetable glycerin. As the makeup is applied and worked into the skin, the body temperature breaks down the liposomes so that they can release their actives in a prolonged time-release action for the ultimate in skin health and protection.

Q1. The highest SPF available in your foundation is SPF 25? Does it provide enough protection?
A1. YES! The effective protection against UVB comparing SPF 30 to SPF 50 is ONLY an increment of 1%! Not to mention the extra chemical added to provide an extra 1% protection.

Q2. What is Non-Comedogenic?
A2. Denoting a skincare product or cosmetic that is formulated so as not to cause blocked pores.
Q3. Are all of your product Cruelty-Free?
A3. We are a certified cruelty-free cosmetics brand. Our voluntary commitment to no animal testing at every stage of product development and manufacturing is recognized by both PETA and The Leaping Bunny Program.

Q4. Is the makeup safe for all skin types?
A4. It’s important to know that anyone can be allergic or sensitive to anything. However, we have eliminated the top three sensitizers from our makeup, synthetic fragrance, most synthetic colorants and synthetic preservatives. We've also tested every product for sensitivity on a 50-person test panel in a laboratory. Individuals with extreme chemical sensitivities wear our makeup successfully. If in any doubt, patch-test the product on the inner-arm.

Q5. Is it all right to use it on acne-prone skin?
A5. If you are under a doctor's care for acne, ask her first. Otherwise, we feel confident that our makeup will not make acne-prone skin worse and may even help it. Our makeup is completely non-comedogenic and allows the skin to breathe and function normally. It also easily covers the redness common with eruptions. We have had many aestheticians report to us that they have seen an improvement in the skins of their clients since they have been using jane iredale.

Q6. How soon can the makeup be applied after laser, microdermabrasion or peels?
A6. The minerals can be applied immediately after a microdermabrasion or a light peel provided the skin has not been broken. They will not only cover the redness, but the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide may help to soothe the skin. It is also important to replace the protective stratum corneum (top layer of skin) that has been lost after these kinds of procedures. The stratum corneum is the body’s first defense against the sun. Application after laser resurfacing must depend on the physician’s permission, which can be from 5-12 days depending on the kind of laser and how deeply it was used. It is essential for healing skin to be protected from the sun.

Q7. Are the powders drying?
A7. No, quite the reverse. Our minerals actually trap moisture between the skin and the particle layer. The conception that powders are drying comes from the high use of talc in most formulas – up to 90%!
