Upon its arrival, the material inside the cooling pad was in a liquid state, probably because it was in our mailbox for a few hours in the Georgia heat. I laid it over a cool vent to cool it off. Surprisingly, it cooled off very quickly! The material inside is liquid above 90 degrees, and the package says it slowly becomes crystalline below 80 degrees. I laid the cooling pad on the couch and relaxed for hours! It absorbs heat so well! I was a little nervous about laying back at first... Fearing that it would be like laying back on an ice pack, but it was a nice cool temperature, not too cold. My husband and I both like it so much we are going to order another one so we don't have to share. It is perfect for hot days when you just don't want to kick the air conditioner down, or for a quick cool off after a workout. We plan to use them for camping as well when the temperature isn't cool enough at night. It is a great size! It "regels" by just sitting flat. I I can just leave it on my couch, and it is ready to go next time I sit down. -The materials seems sturdy. -It is reusable. -The cooling on my back feels like heaven. I almost laughed because how good it felt. Some of the other reviewers said it gets hot after a while, but I never noticed it getting hot. It got lukewarm after a while. But if I understand correctly, this pad works off of a chemical reaction, and that is just part of the reaction process. When it gets warm, that just means that it needs to "regel" or go back to the beginning stage of the reaction process. I couldn't clock an exact time on how long the cooling lasts, because I think it also depends on your body temperature and the temperature of the room how long the cooling lasts because the pad is reacting to the heat it is exposed to.
