The walnut is a plant that has been traditionally used for coloring hair and textiles. The husk and the leaves are collected in the autumn and the beginning of summer and are then used for dyes. The powder is suitable for adding brilliance and color enhancement to all shades of brown. Walnut-shell powder alone has weak staining abilities, but if it is mixed with other vegetable dyes such as henna or black henna (or mixtures that contain these plant extracts) it can enhance all shades of brown.
An application of a paste of powdered nutshell at an exposure time of approximately one hour leaves the hair a yellowish, amber color. If the powder is mixed, however, with henna or black henna, the staining power is enhanced, helping to intensify the copper tones and dark colors. If both colors henna and black henna are mixed with nutshell powder, you get a maroon brown.
