the history of whoo jin hae yoon sun cream spf 50

If there’s one product I never leave the house without it’s sunscreen. This is because the sun’s UVA rays are one of the main factors in premature aging, dark spots, and wrinkles.

This is why, come rain or come shine, I religiously use a sunscreen with a high SPF. One of the most popular Korean suncreens – which also happens to be my favorite – is The History Of Whoo Jin Hae Yoon Sun Cream SPF 50 PA+++. I take this one with me every single day, wherever I may be headed.

I like this sunscreen because, like most Korean skincare products, it’s an effective multi-tasker. Its creamy and rich texture feels more like a moisturizer, keeping my dry skin hydrated for hours. At the same time, the high SPF keeps my skin protected both from sunburn-inducing UVB and wrinkle-causing UVA rays.

In addition to preventing sun damage, it smoothes skin that is already damaged by infrared light. This is thanks to Gongjinbidan, a blend of six herbs with excellent moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties that were traditionally used by royalty to smooth fine lines and brighten skin.

Gongjinbidan contains equal amounts of six herbal ingredients that are believed to have maintained the beauty of the royal court, including angelica gigas nakai (effective for keeping skin smooth), deer antler (for healing injuries and skin disorders), cornus officinalis (an anti-oxidant), wild thyme (for its antibacterial effect), acanthopanax root bark (for relief of skin troubles), and asparagus cochinchinensis (for restoration of skin texture).

I also like the fact that this sunscreen doesn’t leave a white cast behind like most others do. This makes it a great base for makeup, although if you use sunscreen religiously, your damage-free skin won’t even feel the need for foundation anymore. Korean beauty is all about aging prevention, and nothing prevents aging better than a good sunscreen!

The History of Whoo Jin Hae Yoon Sun Cream SPF50+ PA+++[Review]

Tuesday, 22 September 2015

The History of Whoo, like Sulwhasoo, is one of Korea's high end/luxury skincare brands. In fact, I believe LG launched Whoo in 2003 to directly compete with Amore Pacific's Sulwhasoo

Naturally, I was intrigued, and decided to start with a couple of staple items in my recent Koreadepart visit. The lip gloss I'd wanted was sadly out of stock, so I ended up with just The History of Whoo Jin Hae Yoon Sun Cream.

Unless I'm at home where UV protection films (a story for another time) have been installed on the windows, I will always wear sun block. As such, I look for nothing less than a combined SPF40 and PA+++, the latter of which is especially important because it's what protects against UVA rays, the primary cause for premature skin ageing.

With SPF50+ and PA+++, this sun cream certainly fits the bill!

Mild sun cream with gongjinbidan a moist medium will enlighten your skin tone while protecting the skin from sun. Also, this sun cream comforts the skin that is damaged by the infrared ray.

I've not been able to find much info on this mysterious "gongjinbidan", except for it being a collective name for the six medicinal herbs apparently used by the royal family to smooth fine lines and give lustre to the skin. It is also known to have outstanding moisturising and anti-inflammatory benefits. Gongjinbidan is basically Whoo's signature ingredient.

Compared to the rest of Whoo's skincare line, for example The History of Whoo Soon Yeon range, the packaging of the sun cream is rather plain looking.
