Sun Exposure

• When exposed to the sun excessively, the skin thickens up in response to protect the dermal layer. Ultraviolet radiation induces definitive alternations in the connective tissue. These include basophilic degeneration of collagen and accumulation of elastotic material into the upper and mid dermis and increased amounts of glycosaminoglycans.
• The thickness of the skin decrease during aging and the skin becomes atrophic. This is in contrast to changes in actinically damaged skin, in which the thickness is increased because elastotic material accumulates.
• Typically a sun-exposed skin appears popular and coarse, and the skin is inelastic. At the end stage of actinic damage, the skin may become atrophic and the skin blood vessels may look clinically abnormal and prominent.

• Flavonoids are strong UV radiation-absorbing compounds that accumulate mainly in the epidermal cells of plants.
• The localisation of flavonoids in the epidermal layers of plants, and their known ultraviolet-absorbing properties, has led to a recommendation that they can serve as shields against potentially harmful radiation. There is a growing body of evidence for the role of flavonoids in photo-protection.
• At the Dui Institute of Research, we notice that the colour pigments of the plants stay in the epidermal layer of the skin and remain there for up to 48 hours. For as long as the flavonoids can stay in the skin’s epidermis, the cream, with the flavonoids, will be able to protect the skin from sunburn. However, we advise consumers to reapply under heavy sun tanning to make sure that they are getting the protection they require.
