With SRAM's new one-by, 12-speed Eagle drivetrains sending front derailleurs and 11-speed cassettes packing, it might just be time to upgrade your ride. The SRAM X01 Eagle 12-Speed BB30 Direct Mount Boost Crankset enjoys much of the same technology found in the flagship XX1 Eagle group. It does feature less obviously blingy graphics and leaves a few extra dollars in the bank for delicious post-ride brews, though. This version bumps the chainline out three millimeters to pair with your Boost-equipped frameset for race-worthy power transfer and impeccable chain retention. Eagle's X-Sync 2 chainring builds on the original X-Sync chainring's renowned chain retention ability with a few changes that come with claims of even better chain control. As with the original, each tooth is CNC-machined to support the chain's inner- and outer-link widths by providing a variable thickness from tooth-to-tooth, so the chain and chainring essentially lock together and push away mud with ease. Where the original X-Sync teeth took on a boxy shape, Eagle's chainring boasts aggressively profiled teeth that hold the chain like a catnip-infused cat digging its claws into a brand-new screen door before letting it glide seamlessly back to the cassette for smooth, friction-free spinning. SRAM utilizes its Carbon Tuned technology to fashion the X01 Eagle arms with a proprietary carbon layup that increases stiffness where it's needed and minimizing excess material for an overall reduction in weight. In contrast to its top-tier XX1 Eagle cousin's hollow core construction, the X01 Eagle crank arms feature a foam core that adds a handful of grams to keep costs down without impacting responsiveness. The direct-mount chainring interface also affords the option of quickly subbing different rings for different shapes of terrain, allowing flexibility to adapt to the day's planned route.
