ABOUT LIBYAN DESERT GLASS

The Libyan Desert Silica Glass (favorably known as the Rock of the God) has been dated as having formed about 26 million years ago, and the the strown field is situated to the east part of Libyan desert (West Egypt). It has been theorized to have been created by a meteorite impact, from vaporized quartz and meteoritic metals, with 98% silica content, in other words, tektite with high silica, which gives it its bright opaque quality.

Since the dawn of mankind, it has been used as a tool, ranging from knife to grater. The ancient Egyptians incorporated them in their jewelry making as well, who believed this sacred glass-like gemstone can bring long and happy life.
