What is the differrence between Charging cables, Data cables and cables which do BOTH.
1. Charging cables:
(Average quality electrical cables) Thicker and power cables. Allows devices to be charged with minimal power loss. Charging cables are typically short to minimise power loss. (Base at 95-97% power efficiency)
2. Data cables:
(Low quality charging cables + pin 2 and 3 shorted)Functions the same as Charging cables just that with 1 pin of the USB port shorted together. This results in the PC reading the cable as a DATA cable. Charging efficiency drops over 50% when the cable is read as a data cable by the PC. (Base at about 25% power efficiency)
3. Combination Cables:
(Average quality electrical cables + pint 2 and 3 shorted) They are exactly the same thing as Charging cables just that with pin 2 and 3 shorted. Same efficiency drop in charging due to data connector linked to the power connector. (Base at about 50-75% power efficiency) Largely dependant on the quality of wiring used)
The higher the power efficiency, means the faster your phone will charge or how much effective power is transfered to your handphone.
Example:
Case Scenario: A power bank of 2000ma with a 5v 1A output.
Your phone has a 2000ma battery.
Most power banks have a maximum power conversion of 80%.
Therefore, effective power throughput charging your phone using the 2000ma power bank using: (Charging Cable: 0.97 * 0.8 * 2000 = 1552ma) 75% full
Therefore, effective power throughput charging your phone using the 2000ma power bank using: (Data Cable: 0.25 * 0.8 * 2000 = 400ma) 20% full
Therefore, effective power throughput charging your phone using the 2000ma power bank using: (Combination Cable: 0.75* 0.8 * 2000 = 1200ma) 60% full
