How does it work?
The process of laser and light-based hair removal is well known and established. It has been proven in clinical use around the world for over 15 years as a safe and effective way to achieve long-term hair removal.
Step 1.
Before HPL Treatment: Healthy hair follicles with normal hair growth
Step 2.
During HPL Pulse for hair removal: Light energy combined with the acoustic effect is selectively absorbed in the hair shaft and disables hair growth.
Step 3.
Immediately After HPL Pulse: Energy is absorbed by the hair follicles while the surrounding tissue remains at normal temperature and hair removal is achieved.
Light based hair removal, HPL Technology
Light-based hair removal technology is based on the theory of selective phototermolysis. In this process, optical energy is used to disable hair growth. In order to achieve this thermal effect, the hair shaft needs to selectively absorb light energy and transform it into heat. This selectivity is achieved since high optical energy delivered to the tissue is mostly absorbed by hair shaft pigment, while the epidermis and the surrounding tissue is actively cooled (by a cooling mechanism). The pigment in the hair shaft that is responsible for the absorption of the light is called melanin and it generates the heat that eventually disables hair growth. When hair growth is disabled, long-term hair removal is achieved.

Recommended by Doctors
Silk’n Glide is a light-based device for permanent hair reduction designed for home-use. Silk’n Glide may be used to remove unwanted body hair. Ideal body areas for Silk’n Glide use include the underarms, bikini line, arms, legs, face, back shoulders and chest. Glide offers 5 levels of energy from 1 (the lowest) to 5 (the highest). Silk’n Glide is FDA cleared in the USA and was tested by top dermatologists and plastic surgeons who concluded that Glide can be used safely, easily and effectively in a typical home environment.
Clinically Proven
The Home Pulsed Light technology (HPL™) has been designed to capture all the clinical benefits of pulsed light for hair removal at home. In clinical trials lasting over one year, top dermatologists and plastic surgeons found Silk’n Glide able to achieve excellent hair removal results.
Treatment surface
Furthermore, the 3cm⊃2; treatment surface through which pulses of light are delivered is recessed inside the device. This enables Glide to protect your skin by avoiding direct contact between the treatment surface and the skin.
Safety with Silk’n Glide
With Silk’n Glide safety comes first. Do not use Silk’n Glide on the naturally darkest skin complexion. Silk’n Glide comes with a built-in skin color sensor that is designed to measure the complexion of the applied surface and enable application only on suitable skin complexions. This unique safety feature will not let you treat where your skin is too dark or too tanned.
Also suitable for darker skin types
Hair removal with light is not suitable on naturally dark skin or tanned skin. Nevertheless, Silk’n Glide operates within much lower energy levels than other devices making it suitable for treating a wider spectrum of skin tones including darker ones. Today, only the darkest skin tone cannot be treated with Silk’n Glide.
Silk’n Glide has a built-in safety feature for eye protection. It has been designed so that a light pulse can not be emitted when the treatment surface is facing open air. The safety feature enables treatment only when the treatment surface is in contact with the tissue.
Pulsing and Gliding
PULSING is the best technique for working with higher energy levels as it enables better control of skin coverage. When pulsing, Silk’n Glide pulses should be administered in rows, starting at one end of each row and progressing sequentially towards the other end helps you avoid treating the same area more than once or overlapping skin areas.
GLIDING is the best way to work within the low energy levels and achieve a fast and more efficient session. When Gliding, hold the pulse trigger down continuously, and using a slow sliding motion while keeping contact with the skin, smoothly move the device along the treated area. In the lower energy levels the device takes only 1-1.5 seconds to recharge between pulses and provides a nonstop sequence of flashes.
Sun Exposure
Silk’n Glide’s lowest energy level (1) is designed especially for safe use even after sun exposure. After sun exposure you may continue using Silk’n Glide, but only at the lowest energy level.
Sun exposure includes unprotected exposure to direct sunlight of over 15 minutes constantly, or unprotected exposure to diffused sunlight of over 1 hour constantly. To protect recently treated skin when exposed to sunlight, be sure to thoroughly apply sunscreen SPF 30 or higher, for 2 weeks after each hair removal session.
Energy level
Energy level determines the intensity of the Silk’n Glide light pulse delivered to your skin. Glide offers 5 levels of energy from 1 (the lowest) to 5 (the highest), represented by 5 energy level indicator lights. The Energy level set for the treatments determines the number of pulses the device can produce. Full permanency for a single user with up to 50.000 pulses.
energy level 1 – 1 pulse every 1 second
energy level 2 – 1 pulse every 1.5 seconds
energy level 3 – 1 pulse after 2.3 seconds
energy level 4 – 1 pulse after 3 seconds
energy level 5 – 1 pulse after 3.4 seconds
No refills needed!
Silk’n Glide comes with 50.000 pulses. Enough to treat the whole body and face. In comparison: Silk’n SensEpil comes with 750 pulses and Silk’n Flash&Go LUX with 5.000 pulses. Our newest device Silk’n Glide contains more pulses for a much longer treatment time. Because of the great number of pulses that is already included, there is no need to buy new refill/cartridges for this device.
FAQ's
1. Does Silk’n Glide really work?
Yes. Silk’n Glide is intended to effect permanent hair reduction. After the recommended cycle of treatment you can definitely expect satisfying results.
2. Where on my body can I use Silk’n Glide?
Silk’n Glide is designed for all body areas. Ideal body areas are smaller and more delicate ones, such as underarms, bikini line, arms, face and the neck.
3. Can I use Silk’n Glide to remove facial hair?
Silk’n Glide can be used for the treatment of facial hair. Extra caution should be used on the face to avoid the eyes – never use Silk’n Glide around or near the eyes.
4. How long does a Silk’n Glide treatment session take?
The time can vary depending on the area of the body treated, and the method of treatment you choose. For example, the treatment of 2 full legs can take up to 22 minutes when PULSING. GLIDING is faster and might take about 15 minutes. Silk’n Glide does not require recharging, so it can be used non-stop for as long as needed to complete a full hair removal session of the desired body part(s).
5. Is Silk’n Glide safe?
With Silk’n Glide Safety Comes First. Home Pulsed Light™ technology is able to achieve permanent hair removal results at a fraction of the energy level used in professional light-based hair removal equipment. The low energy used in Silk’n Glide reduces its potential to cause harm or complications, and contributes to your overall safety. Silk’n Glide also has a built-in safety sensor which stops the device from emitting a light pulse if the treatment surface is not fully attached to the skin or if your skin tone is too dark for treatment.
6. What's the difference between pulsing and gliding?
PULSING basically means a method of treatment in which the device is positioned on the skin, the trigger is pressed and a pulse is emitted. The device is then repositioned and the following actions repeated until the intended area is covered.
GLIDING is a technique which allows a swifter motion of the device on the skin. Just press down the trigger continuously and slide the device along the intended area. You’ll see light pulses emitted one after the other without having to stop and reposition the device.
7. When can I expect results with Silk’n Glide?
As with any light-based or laser hair removal device, results are not immediate, in fact hair may sometimes appear to be growing back after a hair removal session, but typically after two weeks many of these hairs will simply fall out. Additionally, hairs grow in three different stages and only hairs in an active growth stage will be affected by Silk’n Glide. This is one of the main reasons that multiple sessions are required to achieve the desired result.
8. For how long should I continue treatment with Silk’n Glide?
A typical full hair growth cycle may take 18-24 months. During this time multiple Glide sessions may be required in order to achieve permanent hair removal. The time extent of hair removal sessions varies from person to person according to body area, hair color, and how Silk’n Glide is used.
9. Will Silk’n Glide hurt?
Most users of Silk’n Glide report feeling a slight sensation of heat and tingling when a light pulse is emitted. Users with thicker and darker hairs may feel slightly more discomfort, but this discomfort subsides once the hair removal session is completed. For your convenience Silk’n Glide has five energy levels that can be set according to sensitivity and tolerance.
10. How often should I use Silk’n Glide?
Typical Silk’n Glide hair removal plan during a full hair growth cycle:
Treatments 1-4 – plan two weeks apart
Treatments 5-7 – plan four weeks apart
Treatments 8 + – treat as needed, until desired results are achieved.
Maintenance: from time to time some upkeep may be needed if growth is still visible.
11. Can I use Silk’n Glide on brown or black skin?
In general, light based hair removal is not suitable for naturally darker skin tones. Nevertheless, Silk’n Glide operates within much lower energy levels than other professional devices making it suitable for treating a wider spectrum of skin tones including darker ones. Today, only the darkest skin tone cannot be treated with Silk’n Glide. Silk’n Glide comes with a built-in skin color sensor that is designed to measure the complexion of the applied surface and enable application only on suitable skin complexions. This unique safety feature will not let you treat where your skin is too dark or too tanned.
12. Is Silk’n Glide effective on white, grey or blonde hairs?
Silk’n Glide works best on darker hair types, or hair that contains more melanin. Melanin is the pigment which gives hair and skin their color, and will absorb light energy. Black and dark brown hair responds the best, although brown and light brown hairs will also respond but typically require more hair removal sessions. Red, white, grey and blond may show some response, but may require more treatments.
13. Can I treat myself if I have a tanned skin or after sun exposure?
Tanned skin, particularly following sun exposure, contains large quantities of the pigment Melanin. This applies to all skin types and complexions, including those which don’t seem to tan quickly. The presence of large quantities of Melanin exposes the skin to higher risk of adverse effects when using Silk’n hair removal devices or any other light based hair removal treatment. To assure a healthy, aesthetic result, avoid more than minimal exposure to the sun for 4 weeks before and for 2 weeks after any treatment. Only Silk’n Glide is different at this point. With Silk’n Glide, it is highly recommended to use only energy level 1 when treating on a tanned skin, in order to avoid such effects. Do not use Silk’n Glide energy levels 2-5 on tanned skin or after sun exposure! When treating with Silk’n Glide at energy level 1, you are not required to wait 4 weeks before and for 2 weeks after any treatment. However, if you wish to treat the sun exposed areas with higher energy levels (2-5), you should wait before using Silk’n Glide.
14. Do I need refills/cartridges?
No refills needed! Silk’n Glide comes with 50.000 pulses. Enough to treat the whole body and face. In comparison: Silk’n SensEpil comes with 750 pulses and Silk’n Flash&Go LUX with 5.000 pulses. Our newest device Silk’n Glide contains more pulses for a much longer treatment time. Because of the great number of pulses that is already included, there is no need to buy new refill/cartridges for this device
