Most lamp shades are fluted or so wide that they demand too much space. The wooden base and the cloth lamp shade have simple, non-pretentious lines, and are well-made. The lamp shade has an inner liner made of a white plastic material which diffuses the light. The outer lamp shade is made of cloth and completely surrounds the inner shade. This lamp lights up a previously dark corner. I searched for a long time to find lights that would solve both issues when I discovered these. I purchased two lamps as a trial to sit on the console table behind the couch to see if they solved both problems!! The result: the lamps provided ample light as well as didn't hamper the view through the windows. The bonus is the lamps are unique and absolutely beautiful! The shades are two layers; a shade within a shade in soft ivory with touches of brown/beige giving then a linen look sitting on a simple narrow copper simulated wood post. Each lamp has a pull chain with a matching wood piece at the end making it easy to turn the light on. They are extremely easy to put together upon arrival; no tools needed!
