Giant and the Dwarf (Tillandsia Seleriana and Tillandsia Pruinosa)
This is not a story telling time but instead we are introducing to you 2 of the very interesting Tillandsia species with almost smiliar look but great differential in size. Acquire them both as you admire that smiliarities and differential today!
Tillandsia Seleriana (as the Giant)
T. Seleriana is a bulbous variety from Southern Mexico to Honduras. If you are looking for one unique and plant of great oddities; this one is for you. It one of the slower growing speciest but they can grow up to as big as 40 - 45 cm long if well cared for. And I don't think any Tillandsia lovers will want to miss this species.
Tillandsia seleriana is native to oak and pine vegetaion at elevations level of 200 - 2,500 meters. Looking like an artichoke; perhaps the chef at home might mistook it for the next exotic vegetable to cook for the next lovely evening dinner. Just kidding!
It has one of the largest base; the pseudobulb of the plant sometimes exceeds 15 cm in diameter. A plant this broad at the base would be close to 30 cm tall without a bloom spike. The average size of an adult plant is 10-15 cm across at the base and 15-20 cm in height. This plant is likely to develop an extensive root system when the base is provided with a humid environment. Seleriana can thrive well under average conditions of light, water and fertiliser. The plant will grow well with high light levels as long as equal humidity and/or watering schedule are there to support the more rapid leaf drying out. It will also adjust to lower light but must receive a corresponding decrease in watering frequency. It often needs two or three years to mature from an offset. The upper part of the floral grow to become an attractive pink at bloom. The flowers are purple.
Tillandsia Pruinosa (as the Dwarf)
Tillandsia Pruinosa is another cute and gorgeous species you will not want to miss either. Have a liking for all things mini and cute ? Then this might be the next "big" thing to fill your love for Tillandsia.
Looks like the mini version of Tillandsia Seleriana. Tillandsia Pruinosa is a native of Florida, Mexico and the North of Latin America. This species prefers cooler and not too hot for extended periods conditions as well as ventaliated environment with free air movement. Though small in size; it has big coarse white trichomes appear as frosting on the leaves. And they are very pronounced and look like a velvet coating all over the entire plant. Has a bulbous base with cylindrical twisting leaves. Its tortuous leaves which carry the big ashy white scales gives the plant a frosty and brilliant mini bulb look.
Easy to care and grow. At bloom; it produces a short pink flower spike with purple tubular flowers. The inflorescences are massive and carry purple flowers.
You will be getting Tillandsia Seleriana which is approximately 15-17 cm and Tillandsia Pruinosa which is approximately 4-7 cm if you order any. Our currently Seleriana is app 15-17 cm but sometimes we have those which are reaching 20 cm or more which we also give out instead of the 15-17 cm. But generally, we give out the 15-17 cm and they also look great.
