Although I am well into the complicated life of the typical American adult, on July 4th, every year, I ponder the momentous American tenets of freedom and independence. The meaning of the 4th is so powerful, that, without having experienced its polar opposite, I grasp its substance by reveling in the warmth of the sun and the taste of ice cream on Independence Day.
