Small enough to fit in my hand to change the alarm time, etc and yet large enough to see the time very clearly. The alarm gets louder if one doesn't shut it off promptly...also a good feature. THIS IS it! Didn't even need to look at instructions to set it up. This clock strickly runs on batteries. Great for taking on trips, just grab and go. In a dark room, the back light comes on so you can see the time and when it gets lighter in the room, the back light slowly diminishes to a liquid crystal display. I can see it fine in both modes. Since I like my room dark when I sleep, I turn the clock on my bookcase headboard so I can't see the light. If I need to see the time during the night, all I have to do is turn the clock. It's pretty simple and very effective. However, I have to return it. The lit background is a piercing green that lights up the room and completely disrupts my ability to sleep with it on. I'm really disappointed. Wanted a clock I could see in the dark without it glaring back. During the day, it's like any other LCD clock, but when the room darkens, it automatically begins to light up. The color of green I think is the best color, as it much more unobtrusive than red or blue. If you have trouble seeing it clearly, you can always press the light/snooze bar to bring the display to full brightness. It is not at all complicated as there are few buttons to change time/set alarm etc. The only problem I had is when I need to change time, (like today for daylight savings time ending), the button for Time Set had to be pushed just right to continue, took a few tries to get it. Keeps time accurately as it and my mac are in sync. Don'
