The Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime is a budget smartphone that features 5-inch qHD TFT touch screen and 8-megapixel rear camera. Launched last February this year, its geared for budget conscious users that love to have Samsung smartphone.
Design. The Galaxy J2 Prime has the Samsung signature design, with one look and you will know that its a Samsung smartphone. It sports 5-inch touch display with 540 x 960 pixels at 228 ppi, on top is the Samsung logo and 5-megapixel with LED flash. Below the display are the physical home button, flanked by back and option capacitive buttons.
Turning at the back is where the 8-megapixel rear camera with AF and LED flash and loud speaker dead center is the brand name.
On/Off button can be found on the right side, while the volume controls are on the left side which is good since its easy to reach whichever hands you use. Charging port can be found at the bottom and the audio jack is at the top, now if you are going to charge the J2 Prime and use it the FM radio its kind not cool since you got cables going at the top and bottom.
Opening the back cover will reveal the battery, microSD card slot, and SIM card slot. It uses microSIM cards, sim slot 1 is separate, while the sim slot 2 is under the microSD card slot.
The J2 Prime is all plastic built. except for the body frame that is made of aluminum metal, the back cover feels good on hands and it does not slip easily while holding it.
Display. The J2 Prime has a TFT Display with qHD resolution at 540 x 960 pixels, its not vibrant as other Samsung smartphone that has AMOLED display, but its sharp enough to use as a daily phone and watch YouTube videos, it even has good viewing angles.
Watching videos on J2 Prime is good enough and surprisingly the speakers are loud even though that it is located at the back which is really not the best location.
Performance. The J2 Prime is powered by MediaTek MT6737T CPU with Mali-T720 MP2 for graphics department. It only has 1.5GB RAM (too small Samsung should make it at least 2GB RAM), 8GB storage (only 3.3GB left for user storage).
Surprisingly the performance of the phone is quite good even with only 1.5GB RAM. Although when a lot of apps running in the background the phone seems to slow down but not to worry since you can close all running apps easily.
In terms of storage shortage, that can be solved by adding a microSD card up to 256GB capacity. In AnTuTu benchmark the J2 Prime scored 34,1734 not bad for an entry level phone.
Battery Life. The J2 Prime comes with 2600mAh battery capacity since this phone has only 5-inch display with a low resolution, battery life last for more than 12 hours of use and even more, you use this as your backup phone that you use for only calls and text.
