Protein Skimmer

Protein skimmer are applied to most saltwater aquarium to remove certain organic compounds, including proteins and amino acids, by using the polarity of the protein itself, from the water to stop most of them decomposing into nitrogenous waste. Because of the intrinsic charge, water-borne proteins are attracted to the air-water interface. Protein skimmers works by infecting numerous tiny bubbles into the water chamber, which present an enormous air-water interface for the protein molecules to cling to. The more tiny bubbles reside in the chamber, the more proteins it absorbs. Protein skimming is one of the effective ways of physical filtration that get rid of the organic compounds before its decomposition, lightening the load on the biological filter and improving the water’s redox potential.

Internal Protein Skimmer

The Reef Octopus Classic Internal Protein Skimmer Series is easy to assemble and maintain. All the skimmers are made with high quality cast acrylic by Engineers of over 10 years of professonal hand-made experience. The skimmers are designed to use a bubble diffuser to help reduce turbulence within the skimmer which helps build a dense head of foam. Half Cone body design with extra-wide plumbing and neck also allow for more air flow with a more stable reactor chamber. Gate valve allows the user to adjust the skimmer and have greater control of customized adjustment. Quick release neck on the collection cup enables user to have a ease of mind when clearing the skimmed by-products away and cleaning of the collection cup.
