Different varieties of jasper were known to many ancient civilizations, including the Persians, Hebrews, Greeks, Romans, and Arabs. This stone was an important materiel for Minoan artisans on the Greek island of Crete, who left a rich archeological legacy of jasper artifacts. This is a volcanic stone that takes different colors and patterns depending on the mineral content of the original sediment and the manner in which the lava cools. This variety of jasper is white with black spots, which is reminiscent of a Dalmatian''s coat, hence the name given to this stone. Dalmatian Jasper is found in Mexico and is associated with the (3rd) solar plexus chakra.
