Highly detailed 1/48 scale assembly model kit of the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, a two-seat, twin-engine maritime air superiority fighter of the United States Navy. The most notable feature of the F-14 is its variable geometry-wings, which gave the type its incredible performance at both high and low speeds, and the ability to select the correct wing configuration at various speeds made the F-14 an outstanding air-superiority fighter as well as a supersonic fleet defense interceptor. The F-14 is considered by many as one of the finest fighter aircraft ever produced. The versatile F-14 was finally retired from the active U.S. Navy fleet on 22 September 2006, being replaced by the McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. This Limited Edition 1/48 scale assembly kit features the F-14 Delta variant operated by the U.S. Navy Air Test and Evaluation Squadron NINE (VX-9, nicknamed "The Vampires"), a unit assigned to develop and evaluate aircraft tactics and techniques for delivery of airborne special weapons based at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, California.
