VITABEEZ’S MANUKA HONEYS are tested for both UMF activity and MGO (Methylglyoxal) level to give customers the better understanding about Vitabeez’s manuka honey product’s quality.

Vitabeez honey has its roots in Coromandel Peninsula, North Island of New Zealand. In 1999, John’s family starts to market their locally produced honey to the local Sunday market and has its popularity in the local community. Today, Vitabeez honey has its own beekeeping operations and processing facility to produce the highest quality, 100% Pure New Zealand Honeys.
Unique Manuka Factor (UMF)
UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) is a natural occurring ingredient in Manuka Honey which is highly antimicrobial and anti-inflammation. The UMF® designation and rating is a highly sought-after and well respected quality trademark. UMF® Manuka Honey must undergo a number of tests to show it is natural, unadulterated Manuka Honey and that the grading claimed on the label is true.
UMF vs MGO
NPA stands for non-peroxide activity, the property that makes certain grades of UMF and MGO manuka honey special. Those manuka honeys that carry only a ‘total activity’ or ‘peroxide activity’ rating do not have this special NPA property and should be considered low-grade honey.
UMF ratings are based on specific natural markers characteristic of manuka honey, such as leptosperin and methylglyoxal. UMF ratings correspond to the potency of the desirable NPA properties of honey. Typically, honey with NPA between 5 and 9.9 are labelled UMF 5+, honey with NPA ratings between 10.0 and 14.9 are rated UMF 10+, and so on.
MGO is methylglyoxal, sometimes referred to as MG.
