Raw Green Organic's Vegan Vitamin D is made from inactivated dried whole cell yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and contains elevated levels of vitamin D. The yeast is subjected to ultraviolet (UV) light under controlled conditions to catalyze the conversion of the natural occurring endogenous ergosterol in yeast to ergocalciferol (vitamin D2). The yeast cream is then pasteurized and roller drum dried. This lengthy process enhances the content of vitamin D2 in the yeast. Vitamin D is a group of fat-soluble micronutrients produced by the human body when skin is exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light.
