My 5-year old son and 3-year old daughter had a blast playing with this set! The kids loved the bright colors and the “animal” pieces (wings, feet, claws). As a parent, I loved how this K’NEX building set encourages creativity and builds a foundation for S.T.E.A.M learning at an early age ? also there were multiple sets of eyes and lots of pieces for sharing between siblings! The storage bin also helps with clean up and keeping all the pieces together. The easy picture directions were great for my 5-year old; he just jumped right in and started building independently. He built some “creatures” following the directions, but he also built some from his imagination. I found that my 3-year old needed some assistance connecting and pulling apart the pieces, but she was using her imagination to build too. She loves playing with building toys and doing crafts like looms and cutting things out with scissors. She really likes playing with this set. I think that as there are long connectors that bend she had more flexibility to build organic forms and makes more creative shapes. She started by following the samples in the included leaflet, but soon after transitioned to her own creations. I played with her a few times but it was something that she does on her own. I was worried that she would need my help to disconnect or connect the pieces but she totally manages! I really like the tub that keeps all the pieces, it's large and sturdy. The biggest challenge after she plays with one of her other building toys is clean up, she just put all this work into something that she doesn't always want to break it apart so that she can put it away! The tub that comes with the set is large enough that she can fit a creation in with it and take it apart the next time she wants to play with the set.
