I'm an unabashed adult fan of LEGO. My boyfriend and I decided on this set because it was the best of all worlds: a junk-style ship that converts into an airship, with ninjas! Whether or not you follow the ninjago story, if you're into LEGO and fantasy themes, I highly recommend this set.

The design of the ship is very well done - it's surprisingly sturdy and easy to build despite some features that I expected would have been a bit more complicated. A lever is designed to open the sails/wings when it is pulled down. The tail of the ship also turns downwards to convert into engines so that the ship becomes an airship. It's also equipped with a canon that fires LEGO cylinders and hidden compartments for daggers. The sails seem to be of a paper cloth material- sturdy enough but it will probably not survive heavy abuse from younger, less careful builders. The canopy also folds downward so that you can place minifigures in behind the wheel much more easily (perhaps it also doubles as a barrier or shield).

Overall, it is a very sturdy build. There two pieces that tend to fall off during play (the two pearl-gold railings near the front of the ship) so I recommend just removing those pieces when your child (or you) is playing and replacing them when they go back on the display shelf. Everything else holds on pretty well (even the mast!)

The ninja minifigures, except for their kendo helmets, are rehashes of the first Ninjago line. Sensei Wu has a wardrobe change from the previous line. The three enemy figures, while unappealing to me, are unique snake figures and four-armed double torso Lord Garmadon which will probably appeal to younger Ninjago fans. Lots of weapons included in this set also.

Some of the bricks have stickers which I'm not a fan of. I haven't applied them to my set and it looks fine without it.

Highly recommended for adult fans of LEGO with a penchant for fantasy themes and this is a must-have for younger Ninjago fans. Great design, lots of detail and a lot of unique elements and minifigures. Lots of playability for younger LEGO fans so it will make an excellent gift. Adults will love its unique style.
