Make a great (and quick!) Nyonya Assam Fish Curry with Little Nyonya’s Nyonya Assam Paste. The assam (tamarind) fish curry is a staple in the Peranakan kitchen, made distinct by a unique blend of spices - ginger flower, lemongrass, chili, galangal, candlenuts, and tamarind.

You will need
1 pack of Nyonya Assam Paste (250g)
Fish meat (optional: fish head)
Okra (Lady's fingers)
200ml coconut milk (optional)
Mint leaves and onion rings (for garnish)
- Boil 600ml of water together with the Nyonya Assam Paste. Add fish and heat on medium flame.
- Cook okra in a separate pot.
- When fish is cooked, add okra into the curry.
- Garnish with mint and onion, then serve. Makes 5 portions.
Storage Tips
Store any unused portions in an airtight container for 3-5 days in the refrigerator.
Can be kept in the freezer for up to a month.
