Mirage Hobby T-26 Model Light Tank

Product Description

The T26 in its single-turret version was modified in 1933, when its gun turret was reshaped. The hull was unchanged. This model, known as the Mark 1933, was in production until mid-1938, when the Mark 1937 was introduced into manufacture and into service. Initially a cylinder-shaped turret with the new 45 mm gun was used. The changed shape of the turret allowed it to house an improved gun. Tanks built with such turrets were known as pre-production tanks. Introduction of radio sets and the requirement to take more ammunition of the higher calibre led to introduction of the rear bay. (Such turret had been designed for the new BT-5 tank). Now the radio was housed in the special bay at the rear of the turret. The new turret also introduced new aiming instruments and the commander 's periscope. The turret was built of welded rolled plates of armor steel. Initial production batches featured no radio in the rear compartment. The radio sets were first fitted in commanders' tanks and are distinguishable by the frame aerials around the turret. This feature allowed the enemy to pick these tanks as preferred targets which resulted in large numbers of commanders' tanks destroyed. This shortcoming was cured in the last series when whip aerial was introduced.
