White gold is a gold alloy that is mixed with at least one white metal usually nickel or palladium. Like any other gold, its purity is measured in karats. Almost all white gold jewelry is rhodium plated since gold alloyed with palladium or nickel will never come out in white, but tinted brown. It is therefore plated with rhodium to mask the tinted shade and make it a true white colour.
