Blue | Slightly darkens reds and oranges while lightening blues and greens a little. Reduces contrast. Rarely used for black-and-white photography. Often used for light balancing and creative purposes.

Grey | Reduces the difference in contrast by evening out the exposure difference between the over bright and over dark areas of your composition. Ideal for shooting the sky on a dull day to bring out detail in the clouds.

Red | Absorbs blue and green. Ideal for creating dramatic cloudscapes. Enhances black and white contrast.

Graduation | Graduated filters help balance the light intensity in one half of your composition while maintaining true lighting conditions in the other half.
