We had great fun putting together the models. The age range is 8-11 but my even my 5 and 6 year olds really enjoyed it with a little help from Mom and Dad and my 3 year old was quite entertained by the finished builds. This is a Phenomenal set for teaching kids how to follow directions while building patience and concentration and is an excellent introduction to control systems. The box includes Includes 336 K'NEX pieces, Discover Control Box and Software, 2 motors, 2 LEDs, and 1 buzzer and a nice plastic tub with Snap-on lid for safe keeping. Building the Knex models offers hands-on learning of Science,Technology, Engineering, Math. There are enough peices included to build 5 different real life models one at a time. The instuctions are very detailed and easy to follow on the provided CD. There are no paper instructions so you must use the CD that is included. You might want to have some plastic Ziploc baggies handy for easier storage of the sorted pieces within the tub. This building kit makes for a great rainy day or cold weather activity. My kids had a wonderful time putting all the pieces together and were quite impressed seeing the final product that they built themselves. We haven't done it yet since we are still working our way through the 5 models, but there are unlimited things they could create using their imaginations with this set. The snap on parts are very easy to put together and hold together well. As with all the Knex sets the parts are durable, flexible, very well made, and built to last. It is an expensive set for personal use but has incredible educational value and will provide years of fun. K'nex are so much more educational than Legos and would make a great addition to any classroom or home schooling environment or just as a fun activity to keep kids learning. Her Dad is a Middle School Science Teacher and loves me for it! She is a very intelligent child and has been ‘playing’ with this set constantly since she got it. Mom and Dad get some free time while she ponders and puts parts together. The electricity learning has her enthralled with her ‘projects’ and has her interested - and what child doesn't love electric toys? The parts are small, but the color coding and hidden science has kept her interested. This set is designed for children in middle school, but she has had no difficulties building them. The parts are small and there are many of them. The packaging includes a plastic bin to keep everything in so keeping it all together has not been a problem at all. Her parents are highly educated and are so excited with this gift because their little girl can engage her intelligence and curiosity. Definitely recommend this as a gift for extra precocious children or even better, something to keep them busy in that long very long month before Christmas.
