Bamboo is Cool!

Well, Singapore it's very  HOT! We get the afternoon sun, which makes it even more difficult to keep our apartment cool. One thing that helps us sleep peacefully is this bamboo mat. It's made of small bamboo rectangles pieced together. It puts space between your body and the bed and is actually quite comfortable. Most Chinese sleep right on top of it with no sheets, but I prefer a sheet on top.

There are different variations of these mats. Some are strawlike and cost less, but I've received splinters in my hip from this type. As with many things in China, it's best to pay a little more and get a better quality. Only thing is the bamboo mats are heavy. Many street vendors use the straw mats on the street for their afternoon rest. They are light and easy to carry.

I'm a softie, my bed has a thick piece of foam over a very hard Chinese mattress, then the bamboo. These old bones rest comfortably!
