Product Description

This is a 1/72 Focke-Wulf Fw190D-9 Plastic Model Kit from Academy.

The Fw190D-9 was developed to improve the high altitude performance of the
otherwise aerodynamically sound Fw190A/F series airframe. This was
accomplished by replacing the air-cooled BMW radial engine in the A/F with
the liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213A-1 powerplant which produced 1776hp.
This engine lengthened the nose of the aircraft and was offset by inserting
a plug in the rear fuselage to lengthen the tail. The Fw190D proved to
be a superlative interceptor but by the time it entered service production
quality was uneven, there was a severe fuel shortage, and most importantly the
Luftwaffe did not have enough experienced pilots to stem the daily and nightly
waves of bombers and their escorts from the USAAF and RAF.
