Purpose: Sleep is one of the most challenging tasks during pregnancy. As the trimester progress, getting into a comfortable position to have a good night of sleep will become increasingly tricky. Poor night of sleep will not only affect the development of the fetus, it will also affect the mummy’s mood.

This U-shape supporting pillow is designed to follow the curvature of the body and provide support from head to toe. The tip of the U-shape can be adjusted to a suitable thickness to provide adequate support for the head and neck; the protruding areas on the sides help to support both the back and tummy. It is especially useful in relieving the pain experienced in the pubic area during the late stage of pregnancy.  The inward curvatures at the end of the pillow provide support for the lower back and rise up the user’s thigh area, to get into a comfortable and cooling position. The symmetrical design of the pillow makes it suitable for both left and right side sleepers.

During post delivery, the pillow can be adjusted to a sit up position to provide support for breast feeding.

Q: Who is “The Mummy Closet”?
A: The Mummy Closet is a brand of the maternity line under VNM Trading, which is a registered company in Singapore under ACRA. As a home grown company, we seek to deliver the most value-for-money products with trusted quality to our customers’ door step.

Q: What are the difference between The Mummy Closet’s U-shape pillow and others?
A: This is a common enquiry that we received. As part of our business ethics, we don’t comments on competitors’ products. However, we could share some of our experience in sourcing for the last two years in the business. We are constantly sourcing for good partners to lower the cost of production so we could stay price competitive and deliver the most value-for-money product to our customers. However, there is a limit on how much cost cutting can be done without sacrificing the quality of the product. In our conversation with different suppliers / factory owners, cost reduction can come in the form of reducing the quantity of infill, change the grade of infill, reduce the size of pillow and replace cotton with synthetic fabric etc. Although some of the differences can be obvious such as size and weight of the pillow, others may not be such as replacing PP-cotton with pear cotton or even “black heart cotton”, using blended cotton than pure cotton. More often than not, the subtle replacements can result in significant cost difference but in this process, the durability, support level and even health are compromised.  

Q: Why infill is important?
A: Infill is important for three reasons. First, it is in terms of support. Insufficiently filled pillows will compromise the level of support, especially as the pregnancy progresses. As we provide viewing, we have the benefit to interact with customers. Through the conversations, some of them have shared with us that they have purchased look-a-like pillows elsewhere and the pillow doesn’t provide adequate support due to insufficient infill or the pillow flattened out after using for a period of time.
This brings us to the second point on durability. Lower grade infills or substitutes have less rebound and result in the pillow flattened out over a period of usage. As the pillow services as both maternity and nursing pillow, the infill should be of good quality to last through at least 2-3 years.
Lastly but most importantly, cheap infill materials may come from recycling materials such as medical items and industrial by-products. This is what the Chinese producers termed as “black heart cotton” which is a general reference for used and hazardous cotton. Prolong usage will pose health hazard.

Q: Why cutting / details is important?
A: The cutting and details are important to meet the ergometric requirement. Prolong usage of products that are not built to specification defeats the purpose of using a maternity pillow and may produce more issues such as backache and stiffness.  Low cost producers tend to foregone details to cut down on the wastage of materials and increase the speed of production through simplifying the process.

Q: What is your quality control?
A: Since 2014, all our pillows are made to our specifications. This is a huge commitment but the only way to ensure the standardization of quality. At The Mummy Closet, we have imposed intensive quality control. To name a few of our QC process:  we weigh every pillow that comes to us to ensure they satisfy the weight requirements; we check the edges of pillow cases are all serge to ensure they will not frill with repeat washes; all our pillow core comes with a zip, to allow us and customers to examine the infill which will provide a peace of mind.

Q: Why the product descriptions / photos are the same?
A: We listed our product description / photos to provide information to our customers. In this process, we can’t prevent other sellers from taking the photos / descriptions. Those who are better will retype the descriptions; those who are less so will just copy and paste it and even impose their own logos. It is part and parcel of online business. What is most important is that customers received the products as per described. Because we are confident of our product quality and our belief in transparency, we open our door for viewing.
