Potassium sulfate (K2SO4) (in British English potassium sulphate, also called sulphate of potash, arcanite, or archaically known as potash of sulfur) is a non-flammable white crystalline salt which is soluble in water. The chemical compound is commonly used in fertilizers, providing both potassium and sulfur.

 

Potassium Sulfate or Sulphate of Potash is an inorganic crystalline salt. In mineral form it is known as arcanite. Potassium Sulphate is a white crystal or powder, odorless, bitter tastes, and is nontoxic.

 

It is soluble in water, but insoluble in Ethanol.

 

 

 

1. As fertilizer:
The major use of Potassium Sulfate is as a fertilizer. The element Potassium is one of the three major nutrient while Sulphur is a “trace element” that are required for proper and healthy development of plants.

 

2. Use in Cosmetic And Skin Care Products
it is an ingredient in cosmetic and skin care formulas as a viscosity increasing agent or thickener. It is used in a wide variety of products, including hair care formulas, moisturizers, and make up products.

 

3. Potassium Sulfate is used as a raw material for making other Potassium salts.

 

4. Potassium Sulphate is used in the manufacture of glass.

 

5. Potassium Sulfate is used as a flash reducer in artillery propellant charges. It reduces muzzle flash, flareback and blast overpressure.

 

 

Potassium Sulfate is considered a safe ingredient, rated as a low hazard.
Organ system toxicity and neurotoxicity may be manifested only on exposure to high doses.
Inhalation: sneezing or coughing.
Ingestion: gastrointestinal disturbances and irritation.
