Be safe from 'accident scams’. It is happening more frequent than ever.

To explain further, accident scams are planned accidents, where a car from another lane would barge to your lane and slams the brake suddenly causing you to brake. The car in front of you of course would speed on time since they are experienced in doing this. However, you and the cars behind will be the victims of back to back accident, leaving you with no proof to justify your sudden braking.

Eventually of course, you have to waste your day lodging report, leaving your car for repair and most importantly, you’ve lost all your Insurance Non Claim Bonus that you gathered for years..

Dashcams helps you in time you need it the most. Be safe from this growing accident scams

Things to consider before buying a dashcam

Video quality is important in a dashcam, as it’ll be tasked with capturing detail some distance away from the camera and will need to handle motion well. This means you’ll want to look at a 1080p camera that can capture at 30 FPS or more. While 720p can work out fine, 1080p models aren’t hard to find, and the difference in video quality is obvious.

The size of the camera can be critical. Some models are small and discreet which can avoid being stolen and probably breaking the windscreen which could cause a huge expense. Others are large and virtually impossible to hide.

Another choice you must make is whether or not you’d like a dashcam with a display. Some models come with LCD displays that allow for easier adjustment of options on-the-fly.

Storage capacity is an issue you may be concerned about, but it’s actually not relevant to the camera. Virtually all models use an SD card, so the amount of video you can record depends on the SD card you use. You’ll generally be able to get 8 to 10 hours of HD video from a 32GB SD card.

Night vision: All dashcams can record at night, of course, but some have a night vision mode. This is usually offered via a High Dynamic Range feature that brightens details. Consider this a must-have if you do most of your driving after dark, but beware not all cameras work equally well. Check YouTube to see if anyone has posted an example of after-dark video with the model of dashcam you’re interested in.

Battery or Capacitor – How the camera saves if power is lost.

Many people new to dash cams do not understand that the inbuilt batteries are NOT designed to run the cameras. All dash cams require constant 12-volt power from the supplied charging cable to work properly. The in built batteries or capacitor are there to ensure that if the camera loses power due to an accident it can still save the footage safely and shut the camera off without losing the file

Auto Start/Stop – Nearly every camera will have this, it ensures the camera starts when your car does and stops when your car stops. (Here lies the major flaw in using a GoPro as a Dash cam, they do not at time of writing have this feature)

Parking Mode – Now this is a feature that appeals to many, however it can be a bit harder to setup. It is as it sounds, a mode for when the vehicle is parked and turned off, It will usually rely on motion detection or the G sensor to detect impacts. This is useful for those bumps in the Supermarket car park. However parking mode almost always requires the camera to be permanently connected to power supply, and this requires you to have some form of Cutoff installed that will prevent it from draining the vehicle battery.
