I first saw the AVON Mega Effects Mascara on Pixiwoo and I thought what the heck was that thing Nic just poked her eyelashes with?! That’s a …what? A mascara??

A few weeks later, whaddyaknow. The good people at AVON kindly sent me that funny-looking mascara to try out. I received it on the day before I left for my holiday so needless to say, I popped it in my makeup bag as well. 😛

I have to say, this is the strangest mascara I’ve ever seen. I’ve never used a mascara that doesn’t come in a wand and this certainly is an interesting one. So what you do is you remove the red cap, hold on to the groove-y red pad (oh you know I have to say it!) and gentle pull it out.

As it’s not a regular mascara, I initially found it a tad difficult to apply on my lashes. I had to work the angles just right so that I don’t poke myself in the eye. But once I got used to it, it became quite easy to use, especially when it comes to applying short and stumpy Asian lashes like mine. You can even work the brush to a 90 degree angle and use it on your bottom lashes. You can also squeeze the bottle to get more product on the brush (something you don’t see in regular mascaras).

It creates volume at the roots and gives a very natural finish to the lashes. It doesn’t leave the eyelashes looking stiff or feeling brittle. I didn’t experience any smudging even after 10 hours of wear.

This is a big one for the novelty and damn-I-just-gotta-have-it-to-play-with-it-ness, I highly recommend you check this one out. It’s like a makeup toy that I just had to have! 😛

HOW TO USE?



Avon Mega Effects Mascara ($19.99) is a revolutionary new mascara that is unlike one we've seen before. Why? Because it doesn't have a wand like traditional mascaras do. It's an industry first (yes, that's a big call on the beauty circuit!) and although it sounds impossible to apply, it makes perfect sense, once you give it a go.


The brand claims that 40 percent more mascara makes it onto your lashes (without clumping) and we're not going to get down to the nitty-gritty scores here, but you do end up with those thick, wet-look lashes without the clumps that usually come with this style of mascara. Impressive, to say the least! The big-bristled brush and adjustable handle make it super-easy to use, the fuss-free formula glides on and once dry, it won't budge.


Curious? We would expect nothing less! After all, mascara is a must-have for most of us, and who wouldn't want to try something that produces these amazing before and after results? You'll see there's no gimmick here and I can tell you right now, I wouldn't show my bare lashes for anything less than amazing!

As my lashes naturally curl up, the mascara will work its magic without me having to do anything. But if your lashes are dead-straight, no matter what mascara you try, it's worth giving them a quick curl before you apply.




It's that easy! Do the same to pop it back in.





The handle is adjustable, so bend it towards your lashes on an angle that works with the shape of your eye. The brush is big enough to cover most of your lashes, but you may need to move slightly in and out to ensure you get the little ones on the inner and outer corners of your eye. You can even turn the brush on its side and use the corner bristles to get precision application on your smaller lashes.





The wand is the perfect shape for your fingers and has a grip to hold. You can adjust the handle to suit, or leave it on the same angle to apply onto your bottom lashes. Again, the brush will reach most, but move the brush along or turn it on its side, if needed.

Avon Big & Daring Volume Mascara Review



It’s been a while since I tried a new mascara, the truth is that I’ve fallen into an extremely comfortable relationship with Clinique High Lengths mascara (the one with the brush that looks like a praying mantis).  Considering I first reviewed that particular mascara over 4-years ago now, it’s pretty good going for it to remain in my top-5 mascara list, no?

Anyway, as comfortable as our relationship is… I’m a terrible flirt and the latest mascara from Avon, which promises 24-hour volume with a buildable, clump-free formula, had me batting my eyelashes from 50-paces.

I usually get on well with lengthening mascaras as my lashes are fair, particularly at the tips where they disappear against my skintone.  I could apply boot polish and I’d still get an initial wow factor at uncovering those lost tips!  Having said that, my lashes, particularly post pregnancy, are a little sparse and volume and thickness is something I crave.

The Avon Big & Daring Volume mascara presents a large, curved brush… densely packed with bristles of varying lengths.  The idea behind this brush is the usual "capture as many lashes as possible in one go” remit, and it works well.  Obviously, the more lashes you can capture (per sweep), the less you’ll need to layer and the chances of clumping will reduce.

I hate clumpy lashes, with a passion.  I strugle to leave the house if I’ve had a mascara melt-down and have overdone it.  As a result, I generally dislike any "wet” mascaras or ones that apply too much product, too quickly.  Instant bin fodder.

Although the Avon mascara captures a lot of product on those many, many bristles… the packaging has an effective inner narrowing of the neck that ensures excess product remains inside as you draw the wand out of the tube.  The curve of the brush matches well with my eye-shape and allows me to get down into the root of the lashes without too much effort or wrangling.






The overall result is great for an "every day” look, the before/after picture shows how my lashes look with two coats of the Avon Big & Daring Volume mascara applied.  I could have gone for one more coat without clumping but in all honesty, I don’t have the luxury of time to keep building my mascara in the mornings.  It’s probably not quite dramatic enough for a night out but it’s perfect for the daytime, especially as I want something a little more impactful than "natural” without going overboard.  It strikes the balance just right for my tastes.

I don’t experience any flaking or smuding with this formula, infact… if anything, it’s a little too resilient as it does take some effort to remove it in the evening.

It’s an effective choice for those on a budget and offers a generous 10ml of product for your pennies.

Hi girls, I am back with review of my favourite everyday mascara that I have been wearing a lot.

Avon Claims:
"Avon’s 1st ever mascara for up to 15x volume. Unique helix brush maximises formula pick-up to give lashes intense volume. Weightless formula, plumping fibres expand around lashes for maximum drama.”

Packaging: The packaging is very catchy and different as almost all mascaras have black or brown packaging unlike Super shock max mascaras’ gorgeous deep teal shade.The packaging is heavy and solid.
Applicator: The mascara has widely spaced bristles to ensure that all lashes, even the smallest on the inner corners, get a generous coating of mascara. The bristles are actually set in a spiral shape.The big and fat handle of the mascara definitely helps in handling and using the wand properly!








Formula,Clumping,Ease of application & Staying power: I absolutely adore this mascara for the fact that it doesn’t clump even after4-5 coats. It thickens, voluminises my lashes and adds a bit of length too.
The formula of super shock max is something between wet and dry..it is neither too wet that it takes 10 minutes to set and mess up the entire eye look nor it is too dry that further coats cannot be applied.It is very light and weightless on eyes.Regarding the 15x claims, I find it does lengthen and voluminise to a great extent.






The staying power is as per the claims what I feel as I have worn this for almost 10-11 hours and my eyes look fresh and the lashes are intact.It is completely water-proof.
