Birch bark tar has been used in Finland for centuries for relief of occasional acne, eczema, psoriasis, dandruff and itchy skin conditions as well as for relief of cracked skin.
The odor of birch tar oil is distinctly phenolic, very penetrating and diffusive. It is reminiscent of tar, charred wood and smoke (all of which have their odor from components of the birch tar oil).
