Bird's nest is an edible nest created by the Swiftlet bird. During the breeding period, the male swiftlet bird uses its saliva, along with other items, to create a nest for breeding. The saliva, though moist and in liquid form when produced, will harden into a type of strands that are interwoven throughout the nest. Such edible nests are reportedly only found in tropical countries of South East Asia.
While bird nest products have long been perceived as a traditional delicacy only reserved for the highest-class individuals in the Orient, it is fast becoming a beauty and nutritional supplement to many for its medicinal properties.
